Working Together, We Can All be Blessed with Good Health

By George Hulse, Vice President of External Affairs, Healthfirst

Being blessed with good health has a lot to do with making the right lifestyle choices. Now that Obamacare is here, we all have new healthcare choices to make. I want to invite you—and the faith-based organizations you belong to—to take a closer look at what Healthfirst® can do for you and your community.

At Healthfirst, we’re all about community. We believe in looking out for one other and doing what we can to help us all become more informed, more empowered, healthier…and, yes, more spiritual. After all, good health is holistic. It’s not just about positive clinical outcomes. It’s about mind, body, and spirit. It’s about making the right choices, taking one small step at a time, doing the little things that can make a big difference in your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Settling for “good enough” healthcare is just not an option anymore—and that’s where you can depend on Healthfirst to look out for you.

Our Community Offices in Washington Heights, Chinatown, Queens, and Brooklyn are valuable resources for your family, friends, and neighbors to visit for answers to the complex health questions of today. We have representatives who speak your language and who understand the cultural, religious, and ethnic customs that often can affect the health of a community.

We can help by:

  • Educating and assisting eligible children, parents, and seniors on the new health plan choices available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA)—like Healthfirst Leaf Plans
  • Being a resource you can turn to for educational programs and events
  • Informing your communities about health and wellness
  • Offering enrollment assistance

For more than 20 years, Healthfirst’s mission has been to provide access to quality healthcare to people in our neighborhoods who need it, deserve it, and don’t have it. Some communities seem more susceptible to certain diseases than others. Too many of us have asthma. Too many of us have diabetes. Too many of us have heart disease. We don’t just do business in the community—we’re part of the community, just like you. We’re working harder every day to improve the health of all our neighbors, so that we can all live longer and healthier lives.

Looking out for one another plays a big part in maintaining good health. That’s why we partner with organizations that play a positive role in the community. We sponsor hundreds of health education events throughout the city each year, so you may see our green-and-white tents at your next community event. Please stop by to say hello and to find out in what ways we can help you and your neighbors.
