BRONX, NY,May 15, 2013 –Healthfirst presents the first annual 2013 Bronx Youth Talent Show Grand Finale on Thursday, May 16 from 4:30pm-7:30pm at Lehman College-Lovinger Theatre, 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, NY 10468.
The talent show, open to children ages 9-13 from participating public schools in the Bronx, will feature 24 finalists displaying their singing and dance talent, competing for the grand prize of $1,000 for their school. Contestants include dance groups and individual singers.
All contestants were nominated by their school, drawing registration from hundreds of performers. Three winners will take home Gold ($1,000), Silver ($600) and Bronze ($400) prizes awarded in the form of a check to the winning school and/or program. Winners will also receive an award certificate and trophy. The Grand Finale serves as one of the many events celebrating Bronx Week 2013, for which Healthfirst is a proud sponsor.
“The tremendous amount of talented youth in the Bronx who go unnoticed due to a lack of opportunities is one of the main reasons Healthfirst made it a priority to host this event,” said Shirley Cox, Healthfirst Director of Facilitated Enrollment. “We are pleased to make a difference in the lives of these children, as well as the schools, while promoting the development of healthy minds through expression and creativity.”
Special guest judges for the final include Noel “Speedy” Mercado (Univision Radio Personality on X96.3 FM); Sophie Peralta (Univision Radio Personality on Mami 92.7 FM New York with El Pacha and Presenter of TV show “De Aquí Pa Ya Con El Pacha”); Kaitlin “KD” Dwyer (Singer and dancer); and, Joseph Alexander - Director, The Edward Morgan Ballet. A special performance by The Edward Morgan Ballet is also scheduled.
Registration for the contest closed in April 2013 followed by preliminary rounds. All grand prize winners and their schools will be honored at a special dinner hosted by Healthfirst in June where the winning school will be presented with a commemorative banner.
