Healthfirst Joins Congresswoman Grace Meng for Affordable Care Act Educational Forum in Queens
Informing the public about their options for health insurance coverage
NEW YORK, NY – November 5, 2013 – Healthfirst joins Congresswoman Grace Meng for her Affordable Care Act educational forum in Queens on November 6, 2013 from 6pm to 8 pm in the fifth floor auditorium of Flushing Hospital Medical Center: 146-01 45th Avenue in Flushing, Queens. The forum is free and open to the public.
Attendees will learn about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), its impact on health insurance coverage, and the enrollment process. Trained ACA navigators will also be on hand to provide assistance in several languages including English, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. Healthfirst, a Qualified Health Plan on the New York State of Health: The Official Health Plan Marketplace, will assist attendees with enrollment in Healthfirst Leaf Plans offered on the Marketplace.
October 1st was the national launch date of all health benefit exchanges – the centerpiece of the ACA. Individuals, families and small businesses – both uninsured and insured – are able to enroll for health insurance coverage using the health benefit exchange through March 2014.
“As the insurance exchange continues to be rolled out in Queens and across the nation, it is critical that those who reside in the borough are aware of the many benefits of the ACA, and that they know how to purchase coverage through the new Marketplace,” said Congresswoman Meng. “I encourage all local residents to attend this important informational seminar, and I look forward to helping them sign up and learn more about the new healthcare law.”
“We are proud to partner with Congresswoman Grace Meng to provide the Queens community with important information about the Affordable Care Act and their access to quality health care coverage,” said George Hulse, Healthfirst Vice President of External Affairs. “We look forward to educating the public on Healthfirst Leaf Plans and making sure all New Yorkers are afforded the opportunity to receive health insurance coverage and take charge of their health.”
Free blood pressure screenings will also be provided. Invited local elected officials scheduled to attend include New York State Senators Toby Stavisky and Tony Avella, New York Assemblymembers Ron Kim and Nily Rozic, and New York City Councilman Peter Koo.
