Healthfirst and Medagate Launch Innovative Flu Shot Program

NEW YORK & REDWOOD CITY, Calif.- Nov 14, 2012 -- Healthfirst, a not-for-profit managed care organization that offers low or no-cost health insurance to eligible New Yorkers, and Medagate Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of InComm Holdings, Inc., announced today that Healthfirst will offer Medagate’s innovative flu shot card to Healthfirst Medicare members for the upcoming flu season.

The Healthfirst Flu Shot Card will allow beneficiaries to receive flu shots at hundreds of retail locations around New York without a prescription. Participating retailers include CVS, RiteAid, Walmart and Sam's Club.

“This partnership with Medagate Corporation allows Healthfirst to provide a convenient solution for our members to receive their flu shots,” said Pat Wang, Healthfirst President and CEO. “Seniors are especially comfortable receiving their flu shots outside of the doctor’s office.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the share of seasonal flu shots given at stores jumped from 7 percent in the 2006-07 season to more than 18 percent last fall and winter. The increase was more striking among seniors; roughly one in every four seniors received their flu shot at a store last year.

The Healthfirst Flu Card will include a user-friendly web site with a store lookup and frequently asked questions. Seniors simply present the card at one of hundreds of locations around the New York metropolitan area and receive the shot with no prescription or co-pay.
