Healthfirst and The Arthritis Foundation Conclude The ABCs Educational Workshop And Walk With Ease® (WWE) Series
Teaching Bronx seniors important tips for arthritis management at St. Barnabas Hospital
NEW YORK, NY, October 22, 2013 – Healthfirst and the Arthritis Foundation conclude their co-sponsored four-week arthritis awareness workshop series, Arthritis Basics for Change (ABC) and Walk with Ease® (WWE) walking group in the Bronx for seniors. Hosted by Healthfirst provider hospitals, the last walking group in the series ends on Thursday, October 24 from 10:00am – 11:00am at St. Barnabas Hospital, 4422 Third Avenue, Bronx, NY. Participants will receive a certificate of completion and a $15 Target gift card in a special presentation ceremony.
The one-hour ABC workshop kicked off the first week of the series where 25 seniors learned tips for managing arthritis and the importance of keeping active. During the following three weeks, the seniors met once a week for the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease® (WWE) walking group in a nearby park for 30 minutes.
“The ABCs educational workshop series has made a huge impact in raising awareness about arthritis and educating seniors on how staying active can lead to a healthier life,” said Susan Beane, MD, Healthfirst Vice President and Medical Director. “Our partnership enables the series to serve as a model for seniors taking charge of their health, not only in the Bronx, but throughout New York City.”
Additional Healthfirst provider hospitals participating in the workshops include Chinese American Independent Practice Association (CAIPA), SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center. To learn more about Healthfirst, please visit www.healthfirst.org.
