Make sure your children get the health care they need.

Find out if you can get health insurance for your children from Healthfirst. If your children are younger than 19 years old and live in New York City or Long Island, they may be able to apply. Here’s how:

01 Learn how your children may qualify for one of our health  programs. 02 Call and ask for a Healthfirst representative to meet with you, or walk in to one of our community offices for help. 03 In order to keep your child's health insurance going, make sure you renew his or her plan every year. Find out if it is time to renew.

Medicaid Managed Care

How do I know if I can sign up my child for a Medicaid Managed Care health insurance program?

To sign up for a Medicaid Managed Care program, you may already get these types of help from New York State:

  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • Health coverage from Medicaid ONLY (MA-ADC)
  • Extra income from Safety Net Assistance (SNA) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

You must also live in the Healthfirst service area:

  • New York City (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island) or Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk counties)

What will my child get from Healthfirst’s Medicaid Managed Care program?

Benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Regular doctor visits, such as a yearly physical, to make sure your child stays healthy.
  • Health screenings, such as blood tests or x-rays, to catch health problems at early stages so they are easier to treat.
  • Hospital services – both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Complete medical care for infants and children including baby and toddler shots (immunizations/vaccines) and regular pediatrician visits.
  • Dental, vision, and hearing care.
