The Greenpoint Gazette - Frolic-Palooza to Benefit Camp Brooklyn This Sunday
On Sunday, June 3rd, Brooklyn’s hippest kids will be rockin’ the waterfront to give their less fortunate peers a great summer.
At “Family Fun on the Williamsburg Pier,” presented by Elaine and Norm Brodsky, in-kids and their wannabe parents will enjoy an afternoon of rides, games, food, drinks and music. Proceeds from the event will help Camp Brooklyn send children from low-income families to sleep away camp this summer.
“We have been very fortunate in our lives and feel a responsibility to give back and help children and families have a better life,” said the Brodskys. “We are thrilled to be involved with Camp Brooklyn.”
Founded ten years ago by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Camp Brooklyn aims to “provide a transformative summer sleep-away camp experience for hundreds of deserving kids.” Funds are raised through fundraisers, sponsorships, grants and individual donations. Just $500 will send a child to camp for two weeks.
“Kudos to CitiStorage, Frolic!, and all the great partners who are coming together to make ‘Family Fun on the Williamsburg Pier’ an extraordinary and memorable event for Brooklyn and for an organization very near and dear to me: Camp Brooklyn,” said Markowitz.
Will there be beer? Yes, courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery, as well as Italian ices and ice cream by Uncle Louie G’s, cotton candy and a barbecue. There will also be rides, including a bounce castle and a Ferris wheel, as well as a tattoo station, face painting and a drum circle!
Aside from the good feeling from helping those in need, the day’s highlight will surely be the entertainment. The Frolic! Rock Fest, hosted by the North 6th Street rock ‘n’ roll play space, will feature non-stop live music and entertainment from an exciting line-up of popular family bands and rock artists: Little Rock-its by Frolic! with Tim Kubart of Tim and the Space Cadets, AudraRox, Suzi Shelton, Larry g(EE), Topsy Bonsai and the Tangs featuring Tracy Bonham, Maracatu NY and DJ Wyllys.
In addition to CitiStorage and Frolic!, sponsors for “Family Fun on the Williamsburg Pier” include Brooklyn Bowl, Broadway Stages, TD Bank, HealthFirst, National Grid, Capital One Bank, Modell’s, Municipal Credit Union, Applebee’s, aptsandlofts.com, Lois Jackson D.D.S. Pediatric Dentistry, the Brooklyn Cyclones, Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Flea, and East River Ferry.
